Dear Kala,

Congratulations! You have been selected as a 2008 National Poetry Month Ambassador. This honorable distinction entitles you to participate in a very exciting project.

During the month of April, our National Poetry Month Committee asks the question, "How do we find as many poets as we can to join our community, share their poetry, and further spread the love of our craft?" We think that we have created the most innovative and dynamic way to spread the love of poetry to millions of people worldwide . . . and the best part is that it will be driven by you!

Spreading the Love of Poetry to the World and Offering Chances to Win Over $10,000 in Cash and Prizes!

As a Poetry Ambassador, we are seeking your creative talents to design and place a unique message anywhere on the Internet in any form that you would like. The goal is to provide messages that encourage others to join our ever-growing community of poets and writers. These messages could be in the form of text (including poems), photos, artwork, graphics, recordings, videos, widgets, banners, or virtually anything that can be spread across the worldwide web. Some of the most successful messages in the past have been found in places like MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, and personal blogs. Just as imagination knows no bounds, so do the possibilities you have open to you. We want everyone in the world to spread the love of poetry, and to see just how amazing being a part of a community of writers can be by submitting their own original works.

The Poet to Poet Contest works in 4 easy steps:

  1. You create your own unique message
(whatever you like . . . the more creative, the better!)
  2. We will supply you with your very own unique link (URL) that will send people to Poetry.com. This link will give new poets the opportunity to submit their work, as well as track how many people used your link to submit a new, accepted poem. Attach this link to your promos, blogs, or websites.
  3. Place it anywhere on the web you think will attract the most people.
  4. Each time someone new sends us a poem that is accepted by our editorial staff, you gain another point and move one step closer to the Grand Prize! With eighteen top prizes for leading contenders and hundreds of other prizes for other participants, there are plenty of chances to win!

Here is your personal Poet to Poet link and your login information:
Both your VIP number and email must match exactly in order for you
to login correctly and check your standing in the contest.

(In addition to finding your VIP number within this email, you can also find it in the URL for any poems
you've submitted to Poetry.com, as well as any letters you have received from us.)

We have also included your submission link to attach to all your messages and promotions

The real key to winning is to consider how to get as many people as possible to see your message. Think of all those fun videos, pictures, stories, and pages you have seen on the Internet. Did you find each and every one by searching for them? Of course not! Many times, you came to them because of a friend, family member, or a link from an already frequented page. Just think of how fast word can spread. If twenty people were to see your message, and they were each to share it with twenty more, then you've just spread the love of poetry to forty people . . . and that number can keep growing! So when you're thinking about creating your promotion, ask yourself, "How can I make this popular? How can I make this something people are talking about? How can I get more people interested in poetry?" It's just a matter of applying your own creative magic, and bingo . . . the world has a new sensation!

In case you are having a little trouble starting out or getting ideas, we are even giving you a few of our best creative designs to play with that have worked for us in the past. We've provided some different banners and promotions for you to use, or perhaps use as templates to build your own!
The sky's the limit!

Just remember to follow the contest rules and guidelines in order for you to claim as many points as you can. Soon you could be standing in the winner's circle and the Internet might have its newest overnight success on its hands! Let's continue the celebration of National Poetry Month beyond April and introduce the wonders of poetry to more people than ever before! Good luck, and continue spreading the love of poetry!
